STAGE 2 PERFORMANCE CAMSHAFT

Eddy the Mad

Well travelled
Mine is due to arrive tomorrow and I can't wait. When I changed my cam and adjusted the valves they where a fair bit louder. I re checked them and I'd let them go just outside of the range on the loose side ( wasn't by much ) so tightened them up a little more and it sounds much better. Now they are to the loose end but still in the tolerances.
Im curious about the differance between the stage 1 and 2 cam... you will notice this stage 2 one tho... :D

Well the first thing I noticed was how much smoother the fuel x lite has made the bike. It feels like a different engine. And no more of the stalling upon starting the bike while it idles. It also sounds different. When you give it more throttle it has a much deeper and louder grunt to it. The mid range has improved too which I feel the airfilter and fuel x combo are complimenting the cam very well. Definatly worth it.

well after a few long trips i decided to remove the fuel x as my fuel economy dropped by 120km on a full tank on average and my spark plugs where pretty fouled up. but after just a few weeks of riding the rough stock fuelling i decided to suck up the fuel economy and put it back on. the bike feels so much better with it and its worth the extra fuel in my opinion.

Stage 2 is of course better, it is completely different in looks as well, you will get more noise because there is so much more happening all in the same time!
The rollers on the Rockers speed up and down as they negotiate the Cam Lobe and must go faster overall as the distance is greater.
The Dyno says a 48% Gain on my build which includes a bigger piston etc, 0 to 100kph is about 30% less and a bit more noise;)

It is running too rich if that fuel economy is correct.

Yes way too rich. It's the fuel x lite version and I'm trying to find away to lean it out a little. The stock feeling is too lean so wouldn't mind something in-between the two.

Currently contemplating some mods, Stage 2 cam and Fuelx amongst them and i think this statement has made the decision for me, which would be the Pro version as it can be changed on the fly, a ways off yet though.

Matt i think i would be contacting Racedynamics, could your Fuelx Lite be having an issue ya think, that change in fuel consumption is quite a bit.

Yes we'll if I was to buy again I would go thr pro so I could lean it out too. I have messaged them but I suspect the map is just a tad bit too rich. For general riding though I leave it plugged in as it runs so much better. Low rps and the torque down low is drastically better and it's worth the extra fuel. I just unplug it now for the longer rides. I may upgrade to the pro myself soon too

The Autotune model is the Lite, which is giving Matt issues with more fuel consumption, the Lite was my initial thought as i dont care to have the switch on display but have now opted for the Pro version instead, not bought yet.
The switch is a bit Fugly but can be operated with Mitts or Gloves so is acceptable, these units are the closest thing you will get to Magic on a Himalayan.

Oh yea them's fugly alright, good to know there full of pixie dust though :D no rush just at the moment, will purchase one along side a cam upgrade and air filter. Might wait for the warranty to expire 1st, maybe not though as it worth Sweet FA.

Did you find the current settings ie 1-10 suitable enough, i dont want to be faffing with software, bit out of my league, so i'm after plug and play and Go. Funny, Tec seem to prefer a Booster plug the option for an E4, overstocked maybe :p Seems that's what the Fuel x is anyway, just more refined if you like.

Well I did a little playing over the weekend and took her for a ride and I noticed my spark plug gap was at the low end of the tolerance at 0.6mm. Upped the gap to the maximum of 0.8mm and now it looks perfect no fouling and not over cooked like it seems to be with the stock fueling. I will measure the fuel economy on my next fuel up as I can't really go off the weekend as I was bush bashing it through the scrub and sand.

The lite version is set to map 5 from what powertronic tell me.
Thanks for coming back on that Matt, so for flatlands the light is good enough, but if changing altitude the Pro a better option, even though my local altitudes are'nt high, the Pro could still be best for when i hit the Alps.

If I was to buy again I'd get the pro. Just makes adjustments easy and fine tuning.
