SRC GPS Bar x Hitchcocks Screen Compatibility

Hello y’all,

I picked my bike up on Friday and am loving it. I’ve put 250 miles across two rides and have to say that the only real issue I’ve had is wind buffeting. I’m 5’8”. It’s really bad on my helmet in my normal riding position. If I stand up it goes away and if I hunch down behind it it’s okay, but neither of those are long term solutions. I don’t care for the aesthetics of the taller wind screens or the wind screen clips, so what solutions have people come up with? Can it work with a shorter one or do I need the long screen.

I like the looks of the Hitchcock’s short windscreen, but worry that it’s too short to cover my gps bar which I use for my phone for navigation. Anyone have that setup or tips? I’m considering just cutting down the windscreen to see if that will help, but figured I’d try here first.

Any suggestions are welcome!

What speeds do you notice the buffeting at? or is it windy where you ride?
I am also running in my bike have only done about 200Kms from new, am about the same height as you and have my GPS on an SRC bar, and standard screen; and at the recommended running in speed limit of 60Kmph have not felt any buffeting so far.
P.S. I have the double take adventure mirrors.
I know taller riders find the buffeting to be quite bad, but at higher speeds.

One day was windy, the other wasn‘t. It’s at 60kmph+ as that is 100% a necessity for short stretches on the roads around me. I am going to try the mirror extenders first.

The cheap knock off screen extension added only four fingers or a hands width extra height to the windshield. I'm only an RCH taller than you guys and the top of it was still several inches below eye level. It worked to cut the buffeting up to almost 60 mph. But it was heavy and made the whole screen spring back and forth. The higher the speed the worse it got exponentially. It almost lasted the one trip. I busted it on a low side wipe out. It would have survived if it was cut from polycarbonate sheet instead of being cast acrylic. Brittle. Ya get what ya pay for.

Wind on the chest saps your endurance on longer rides.

Mirror positioning and the screen sized to the rider reduce or eliminate wind pressure and buffeting.

I have all four sizes of CalSci Himalayan specific windscreens and start testing them this weekend.

Remove the screen completely and try it. You'll find things are instantly quieter and smoother. The downside is that you get the wind on your chest... which I've got used to.
Of course, this leaves the back of the instruments exposed.

I approached Eagle Screens in Western Australia. The make the standard screen in any height you want, plus a wider version that's supposed to provide more protection. I asked them to make a 100mm screen which is basically the same height as the instruments. You want to protect your GPS so maybe go for the 200mm. They'll make whatever you want though, you just have to ask. Their work is very good and the plastic is thicker than the stock screen.

The first image is from Eagle Screens.

Regarding the screen extensions. I tried one and it didn't make any real difference, so I gave it to another rider... who passed it on to another rider again. I guess you can say it didn't work for us. I'm 6' but my mate was shorter.

I've got the Hitchcocks windscreen, the SRC mount bar and Barkbuster handguards. They all work great together if the windscreen and bar are in the most upright posititon, and the windscreen works great at reducing the buffeting. 60 mph+ is still very comfortable. There's a sweet-spot for the handguards where they don't hit the windscreen at full lock and they still do the job.

Next purchase is definitely better mirrors and mounts though, just reduce the vibration a bit.
