Hi!!

I've read all the topic, and congrats!!! Your bike is beatiful! I have a GT 650 Black Magic, and I'm enjoying a lot personalizing it!!

I'm thinking in some options for the tail light, and the idea that you applied (one tail light all integrated with indicators) is something that I was realizing to do. But I could not think on how to "close" the side holes. Did you fabricated the sealers? Or ordered from another motorcycle/vehicle?

Thanks, and congrats again!!! =D
That is just a piece of black vinyl over the hole... I still need to get proper grommets to cover them... laziness on my part.

Wooooow, really?! That`s quite awesome, its close to perfect :D

It's hard to apply the vinyl on the piece? I'm thinking to do the same as you did. Something that I did and I've liked was to put leathers strip on the handle (the grip itself, I don't know exactly how it's called in english, sorry). It put some old school like on the bike, and some confort to the grips...the original are a little to "hard"

Oi! Não falo português ... eu falo espanhol... Meus amigos brasileiros me dizem que meu português é de Bahia... :D Eu costumava viajar muito para São Paulo e Rio...
não mais

For the grips I went with the Grip Puppy Comfort Grips. Not fancy but very comfortable. I too like the looks of the leather grip wrap. I was going to order the ones from Trip Machine... I agree, they look great. But these are so comfortable that I decided to just keep them. The benefit is that they will not deteriorate as quickly as the leather ones...

But yeah, leather grip wraps look amazing:

The ride home was good. Got 260 miles on it today. I will do an oil change when I get to 300 miles.

On the bags. Even without the support brackets, they stay in place without issues. But the bags are too close to the pipes for my comfort. This is without any weight in them... so I need to solve the way I will install the brackets to see if I can get them just a tad higher and away at least an inch, or so more, from the pipes.

Maybe moving them forward just a bit more will do the trick... that I can test right now... will be right back.
I just bought the same bike (RE 650 Mr. Clean) and love the look and ride of it. I am a new rider and you posted that you will get an oil change at 300 miles. I just reached that, is that something I would need to do? Thanks.

Congratulations!!! You should do the oil change, absolutely. But more important is that you check valve clearances... many owners have found those to be too tight... That is part of the first check/service needed on these bikes. So be sure to either do it yourself, or have the dealer perform the complete service.

Have fun! Be safe out there and report back on your experience with your new ride!!

I really like that all in one tail light / turn signal. Have you had any issues with it? do you happen to have a link for it?
That was meant to be a temporary setup while I found something brighter/better... Here is the link to it: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Motorcycle-Tail-Lights-LED-Rear-Brake-Lamp-Modification-Indicators-12V-/164648336642?hash=item2655ce3d02

It works and I still have it installed... but my plan is to swap for a brighter light setup. I have just been too busy to take care of it. And since it works, well... laziness on my part as well, lol...

Hey Wachuko, any more updates? I recently picked up a 2020 GT 650. I was looking around at all my modding options when I found your awesome thread. Thanks for posting all your trials and giving me some ideas of what I want to do.

Congratulations on your new ride!! (y)

I have not done anything else to mine... still pending:

1. Convert wheels to tubeless setup - I have all the parts (tapes, sealants, valves, etc.) for this... just have not taken the time to do it...
2. New/better tires - Michelin Road Classic or Bridgestone BT46. Most likely going with the Michelin... but either one would be a lot better than the stock tires...
3. Better rear brake and turn signal lights (would like brighter LEDs from what I have now)
4. I have a USB connector to charge the phone, but I really like the setup from Hitchcocks Motorcycles. Ordered, just waiting for this to arrive...

Can't believe I am writing this... but I think that is it... after that, it is just about putting more miles on this baby...

Oh yeah, I removed the clock/watch on the top triple tree clamp... was not keeping time at all... cleaner look now.

This is a great thread! Your bike looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing your trials. Got a Canyon Red Interceptor over the summer, put 1000 miles on it and now looking at it in the garage and plotting the changes! Got GT footpegs, GT Premium Touring seat, Piranha fly screen and a rear seat cowl from Belgium. S&S 2-1 exhaust just ordered. That tail light is a real bugger, I have been going around what to do, and for now I think the tail light will stay with different blinkers. Those Riga parts only available through facebook? (I have been excommunicated!) Guess I need to start a build thread

After ordering back in January, this has finally arrived...

Beautiful piece... but I was very clear, before ordering, that I wanted to make sure that it worked with the stock fork brace and support... It did not. The holes would not line up to the stock brace. I was not going to deal with the hassle of returning back to Thailand so in anger I said to myself "f* it!, I already lost the money, let's make new holes"

I added slightly larger flat washers after the photo was taken, to hide the old holes. These were close enough for the washer to cover them.

and now mounted... this is the look that I was going for... But I can't recommend the vendor to anyone here... @#%@#$%!@%$@#

Anyhow... this task is done!
Looks nice! Do you think it would be possible to mount the stock black plastic extender onto the rear of this chrome fender to get the benefits of the added protection without much loss in aesthetics?

FYI, it is not a chromed fender.... It is a polished aluminum fender...

As to your question, I never even tried to do so... not the look I was going for. I can check and report back. If the lines/curve is the same, you will still need to drill holes for the bolts...

EDIT: Here you go... as I suspected... the lines are not the same. So no. Not something you can add to this fender... And looking at the photo... I need to wash and polish everything :D

I can recommend the USB connection from Hitchcock. Have it in my Interceptor 650, very easy fit, looks neat and works well.

Understandable on the look tradeoff. I just imagined that oil cooler screen getting really dirty quick but maybe not. Your bike is fantastic with all you have done to it.

Also have the replacement switch. I know this would be cover under warranty, but for US$55.00 I rather just change it myself than spending the time to ride to the dealer and deal with them doing it...
