Who's had their brake caliper replaced under the recall? Question....

Has anyone had their front caliper replaced yet, other than Pittbut? I'm wondering if the dealer found anything about that job they tried to charge you for? Did they try to upsell you anything? Did they comment about brake wear and force you to pay for new pads, etc?

I'm waiting for the parts to come in and I want to know if anything I mentioned happened.

Have not done this for the Himalaya... I did it for the Continental GT 650.

Dealer replaced the calipers and pads. No extra charge or upselling of anything.

I even waited for the bike as it only took a couple of hours.

I would expect that the experience should be the same for the Himalayan...

I have two Himmi's awaiting the recall work. The Maine RE dealer has not responded to any of my inquiries, but the New Hampshire dealer as offered to do the work. They claim the work will take a couple of hours on each.
BTW- I thought the recall was for front and rear calipers.

Had both calipers switched out and they flashed the ECU at my request. No charges but while chatting with the mechanic we discussed warranty coverage with regards to shop supplies that they could legitimately charge for since RE doesn’t reimburse for those. They didn’t and all went smoothly.

You are correct. I re-read my notice and it's for both calipers. My concern is the dealer says they'll replace the calipers under the recall, but they won't put back the existing pads and force me to pay for new ones. Nowhere on the notice do they mention anything about the pads.

When mine were replaced, they did not replace the pads as mine were fairly new already. So I’m sure it depends on the dealer.

They reused mine though I would have been good with replacement if the were well into their life and needed it. Perhaps make it work to your advantage and provide them with upgraded pads to install for you? If the replacements are well known for quality and the are still not ok then I would love to hear a good explanation of their reasoning.

I didn't. Why?

"Korean and European units affected, no reports yet in the U.S."

My local dealer said he felt the replacements didn't feel as responsive as the previous brakes . RE took the safe route and did a mass recall.

If you aren't riding in salty conditions you likely don't have anything to worry about.

My R1200GS was issued an advisory for water in the swing arm that could rust the inner spline. Does water actually get in there? Yes. Likely more so riding in wet conditions more often. A periodic check and spline grease solves the issue. Drilling a hole and placing a valve there means the valve could break. If water can go out of a hole, it can get in. Everyone knows most GS riders only go to Starbucks anyway.

Never understood why someone would not want to have the brake calipers recall done. You are effectively getting better quality calipers… if only because of avoiding any potential corrosion down the road…

Oh well…

You don't understand? It affected a handful of motorcycle in Korea and England. No bikes were reported affected in North America. The percentage of effected bikes was 1% which is a total of all sold bikes in those regions, which is 44.

"Royal Enfield has discovered a brake caliper corrosion-related issue in a very small number of Interceptor INT 650, Continental GT 650 motorcycles in some specific countries outside of North America. Upon investigation, it was revealed that this corrosion is brought about by sustained, long-term exposure to riding on roads treated with certain sa"

I don't ride the motorcycle in salty environments for sustained periods of time in Korea or Britain and neglect to wash it.

They are giving us a new and better corrosive resistant caliper... at no cost to us. Just renewing an old caliper is worth it. Add that it is better resistant to corrosion, even if that does not matter in your climate it is still an improved part.

This is not a recall that would be a risk like the examples you shared... it is two calipers.

That is why I do not understand it. But again, your bike, and you get to decide if you do it or not. All good there.

I will be doing it, if it covers my year.
