Himalayan 411 bs6: Hard gear shifting (Cannot find neutral and shifting to 2nd gear from 1st gear issue)

Hello team,
In my Himalayan bs6, I have been facing this issue for last few days. Typically, while bout to start from 1st gear it does not upshift to 2nd gear. Similarly, when about to stop I cannot find the neutral, always it downshifts to 1st gear from 2nd gear and gets stuck and it's impossible to nudge from 1st to neutral.

However, when the engine is turned off, I can upshift/downshift through all the gear positions smoothly.

Any idea how can I resolve this issue?

Check your clutch cable adjustment. I've had to adjust mine half a dozen times in the two months that I've had my Scram. The nuts seem to vibrate loose. I wound up putting blue loctite on the nuts the last time I adjusted them and it's been fine since.
Thanks will check on this

Yes this, the obvious difference between those two results is that the engine is spinning in one so the clutch has come into play. The clutch impacts things more while at a stop, check that the cable is adjusted to spec.

Hi Tom_d you mean to say that clutch plate would be engaged due to which I am not able to upshift or downshift?
How can I get it adjusted to the spec? Please explain me the DIY
thanks

When my Himalayan was new, I often had trouble shifting to 2nd gear from 1st, even with free-play adjusted as @tom_d notes. That is definitely Step 1 tho.

With practice, you'll note that 2nd gear requires a slight up-pressure on the lever from 1st gear - a firm full stroke - this will become less apparent as the mechanicals bed-in. Neutral can be tricky compared to other bikes, it's a small window on the lever stroke. When all is broke in and you get the muscle memory, it'll come together 😁

@Laserman @Tom D. I adjusted the free play it is currently set to 10-15mm range still the issue persists.
@Laserman I assumed the same and got adjusted to it & rode the bike for almost 4.6k Kms but nothing has changed.

Today I went for almost 80kms ride, I may not be correct, but I feel maybe the clutch cable is a little extra long for which the clutch plate remains engaged even though its completely held?

Where are you measuring 10/15mm free play, and are you certain it is correct?
Mine has around 3 mm at the lever on the motor which translates to around twice that at the handlebar lever.

The only place the play is around 10/15mm is at the outer tip of the handlebar lever but that is not where play should be measured (as different length levers will give different values). Play is usually measured between the handlebar bracket and the inboard face of the lever (play is zero here when the lever is released). Mine is about 5mm - as with Roy’s bike.

I had a similar situation on my Himalayan. I had installed some heated grips which had a high spot in the rubber where the the wiring entered the left grip. When tightening down the clutch cable bracket the positioning of the bracket was such that the clutch lever hit the high spot in the rubber and the clutch lever was not able to be pulled in fully. This kept the clutch from fully engaging, making it difficult to find neutral at idle.
