Well it's been gradually opening up over the miles as I break it in, and then one day, wham! I never thought I'd ride this fast!

I guess the main speedo fix is still replacement? No hacks come up with other than turn it on and off again to reset it? Nothing permanent?

(Naturally warm day, direct sunlight)
Happened before but I've been able to reset it and it's never been quite this extreme

My first one needed replaced. I'm on the second one, and it's doing the same thing. Turned the key on and off about a dozen times, the needle getting lower each time I cycled the key. I've done this three times now with the speedo working normally for a short time each time. This last time it's been working for a week now, but it's not very hot here. I'm confident it will take a total dump and need replaced soon.

Was it replaced under warranty? Is it available to by as a part? My fear is I'm in Oregon, and I got my bike from Baxter's in Iowa. Nearest dealer in state is about 3 hour north up I5 with some pretty good mountain grades. I'm worried if my speed goes south, the only option will be to trailer it up to the dealer to get it replaced under warranty.

It was replaced under warranty. My dealer is Baxter also. They ordered one for me. If I remember right, They sent it to me, and I replaced it myself. Took the old one back to them the next time I went to Marne. I live about 120 miles from them. I recommend calling them and talking to Jeremy. He will get you fixed up.

That's reassuring. Was it a tough job to replace?

When I say to call Baxter for speedo issue, I mean to say if you bought the bike from them. I don't know that they would handle warranty issues if bought from another dealer unless you live in the area. I wouldn't want 30 people from all over the country calling up for warranty issues that their own dealers should handle. If you buy a bike from Baxter, I'm confident they will take care of you wherever you live if it''s something easy like a speedo.

I got you. I did get from Baxters because of all the good things I had heard. I got the heebie-jeebie vibes the couple of times I looked at my nearest RE dealer. It just seemed really off that their OTD price was more than it cost me to buy, add a bunch of accessories, and have shipped from Baxters. They’re good people and I’ve recommended them more than a few times to potential buyers.

i just wasn’t sure if for a warranty/speedi issue the would actually have to have the bike there. I guess I should have asked Jeremy when I was buying.

I have heard this a few times on the internet, but have yet to find a dealership that thinks the software update is real.
RE UK told me almost a year ago that there was a update that a dealer could flash onto a speedo using the diagnostic tool. I will try and find out more. In the UK we don't get so much very hot weather so it is not such a common problem. The headlight makes the back of the speedo hot, then add some hot weather and there is a problem.

Definitely no software update to this issue, only replacement. I swapped to an LED headlight bulb to help a bit, but as the temperatures rise this summer I assume I'll be in for at least one more speedo replacement after parking in the afternoon sun.

Hopefully the next one will actually fix the issue as I only have this summer and next before my warranty runs out.
