What have you done to your Himalayan today (or yesterday, or this week ...)

I thought it would be interesting to see what we are doing to our Himalayans. Modifications, accessories, servicing, repairs etc. Please do share what you have done to your bike today, yesterday, this week etc. You get the idea I hope.

To kick it off, I did a couple of mods/adding of accessories today:

Modification #1 for the weekend. Installed a set of Enfield Accessories Basix Finder Risers. An easy simple modification that hopefully will provide sufficient clearance when or if I encounter mud on my tours.

Modification #2: Fitting of an Enfield Accessories Midi Mount to a Euro 5 (Tripper) Himalayan.

Not wired in as yet due to waiting for a fuse box. That said I have a concern with the way the Midi Mount is mounted to the back of the instruments., to the instruments mounting panel.

The instructions require the removal of two of the three rubber gromets as the existing studs in the back of the instruments are too short with the addition of the Midi Mount. This has meant that I cannot get a good firm mount without some serious tightening. So at the moment, the mount is going to vibrate for sure.

I am going to get some rubber washers and see if they will help with the mounting and reduce or eliminate any potential vibration.

My other niggle is that the instructions say if the screen is too close you should bend the mount. Well given this is for the Euro 5 model which has a fixed position screen, I would have thought Enfield Accessories would have got the shape correct from the word go, more so given the amount of coin paid.

Last couple of weeks really. Fitted tec cam, clearances set to 0.10/0.25mm which is right at the top of recommendation. Engine quiet and runs well.
Did a tankful of fuel, about 240milies and have just rechecked them. 0.10/0.25mm still.
Really pleased with the cam. It’s a much nicer engine now, both on and off road. I’m sure there’d be less moans about lack of performance if Enfield just fitted something similar as standard. I guess we’ve got the climatologists to blame for that one, although I can’t work out how these emissions regulations make any sense, as since fitting the cam my bike actually uses slightly less fuel. Go figure.
Re: the midi mounting in the above post. Based on my home made version mounted in a similar way it will vibrate - a lot. I may try and make a stay for mine, to steady it, but at the moment I reckon it’ll be a phone killer so have gone back to a ball mount on the handlebars.

Switch (with pilot light to show when on) for headlight so when starting or working on bike headlight remains off.
Yesterday: Added a switch to the headlight on low beam- installed switch on handle bar, drilled hole in back of headlight case, pulled cable through, but not connected as the OEM cables to plug inside are really short.
Need to fit some plugs and/or lengthen OEM cable … that’s for next weekend ?

Re: the midi mounting in the above post. Based on my home made version mounted in a similar way it will vibrate - a lot. I may try and make a stay for mine, to steady it, but at the moment I reckon it’ll be a phone killer so have gone back to a ball mount on the handlebars.

I was hoping to mount a camera on it but if it vibrates that will be a deal-breaker. May have to decide if the cost of returning it is worthwhile.

I wonder is the Euro 5 clock mounting setup different to the Euro 4?
My Midi mount doesn't vibrate with a iPhone 11 stuck on it - via an Oxford clip on adapter.
Why not just wire the USB socket to the dipped beam inside the headlight? - only comes on when the engine is running so it can't flatten the battery, easy to do, needs no extra parts.

On the weekend...

- installed the givi engine guard Sunday
- popped in the booster plug Sunday
- tried to put in the pannier rack but found that the captive nut on the frame was severely out of whack, so took off the rest of the install while i find someone with the welding skills to remove the captive nut and weld it back on properly.

Previous weekend...
- Put in bark busters
- Grip puppies
- Throttle lock

Once i've done a few 1000 kays on it, i'll put in the tec camshaft. From all reports it makes the bike quite a bit nicer, and i'm pretty happy with it atm (dodgy welded nut not withstanding)

Installed Seat Concepts seat that I bought used for $100 in perfect shape. Feels great just sitting in the parking lot. Tomorrow I will commute on it and get a good feel for it.

Could be. The issue from what I can see is the removal of the grommets. If I can use washers to get more tension there may well be no issue.

I could do that, but my preference is the fuse box plus relay for all of the accessories. Also will avoid any parasite drain.

It’s the cameras, not really the motorcycles. Some of the new camera have some movement cancellation built-in which is succeptible to damage by vibration of certain frequencies.

Take a look at the Buzz Kill anti vibration thing that Hondo Garage makes. It's old school motion video camera vibra-sorber technology scaled and adapted for smartphones on thumpers.
I'll vouch for the quality & effectiveness.

Just measured the front fork for the sizes of the gaiters and ordered new ones as the old gaiters started to disintegrate. The bike is from 2019, built in February judging by the QC stickers. I heard of other people with the same situation on younger bikes, so it's not dramatic. The tires are still OEM Pirellis at almost 18000 km. The rear tire is at its end and the new one -a Mitas E7- is waiting to be fitted. Need to find the courage to do that. The other rubber parts seem to be OK so far.

That’s a clever Ram mount on the bar clamp for a GPS.

There is also a tether wrapped around the bars that hooks onto a caribina attached to the GPS as I don't yet trust the mount enough to keep the GPS in place. It's been ok so far off road and jumping (about an inch high ) over some woops.

Installing the YSS suspension upgrade - rear shock first. Air box removal/.install is a royal PITA. Putting the rear back together, will be starting on the front end later today.

Also removed the booster plug because it made the bike run like shut ... will have to find out what's going on from Tec, since i've found nothing but praise for the booster plugs. Of course, if there's a way to screw things up, i'll find it...
