Waxed cotton jackets

Hi all,
I'm in the market to buy a new motorcycle jacket. I used to have a mesh jacket which was destroyed, so I'm looking for a stylish, timeless, armored, 4-seasons jacket. Does anyone have experience with waxed cotton? I tried one on (Jane Motorcycles) and liked the look but wonder how it ages and feels in the summer.

You can always re-wax the jacket if it wears, otter wax is a faily decent product I’ve used. As for how it feels in the summer, that would depend on your summer temps....where I grew up the normal high would be around 20 degrees Celsius (68 f) very very hot would be 25 C (77f), where I live now I’ve seen 45 C (114f) multiple times. I have a waxed cotton jacket, where I grew up it would be great in the summer especially since the nights get cold. Where I am now I’ll wear my mesh when it’s warmer and I wear the cotton one when it’s cool (vents closed) or when the ambient temp is more then body temp(vents open), as your not supposed to wear mesh then, you get dehydrated quicker.

You have no face scary...

I prefer natural fibers to synthetic fibres, wool Is my favourite only problem with natural stuff is it’s usually weighted in pounds vs grams for synthetic stuff, but atleast it feels better then a plastic bag.

That jacket looks nice, is it waxed cotton with leather bolsters?

I can't find links to it anywhere online, even at the manufacturer's website. The store said they just got them in for the first time last week, so that could explain why. It's a Belstaff Brooklands v2.0. (The old one didn't fit me). Bolsters are a cool corduroy, no leather. Here's a description from one I found on eBay:

You only own one jacket? I can't imagine that. LOL! If I had to guess, I would say I have 10 I have worn in the last 12 months. Dam, I have a problem.

It seems you no longer need to spend a fortune to get acceptable quality for the casual ride, last four season jacket I bought from Bikers Gear here in Oz was less than $100- and it does all I need and has lasted well.
If I was planning a extensive tour, or worked as a courier and had to ride every day no matter what the weather was like I might want something better, but I don't---
Top quality waxed cotton seems to have become a fashion item and in Oz is priced accordingly, at least four or five times the price of a similar performing synthetic jacket.
Last Bellstaff I had was almost 60 years ago in wet and cold Scotland and it was waterproof enough, but not warm enough, you still needed four or five layers below it!
Fit at the collar/ neck is important, higher priced stuff has better detailing here, and without trying the jacket on you have no way of knowing if a jacket will work for you.

I wear the finest Chinese cordura jackets ... with armour and quilted lining removed, all year round with various layers underneath ... Because if you think a £300 motorcycle jacket will save you when you’ve been run over by a 27 tonne Scania HGV .... you are dreaming ....

Love my oiled cotton. Still wear it on occasion. Haven't looked lately but if I find one in the old style (very functional) with modern armor and not stratospherically priced I can see myself dropping the coin.

I have a friend who has had his Belstaff for 30+ years. Obviously he likes it.

My favourite cool weather jacket is a Triumph branded Barbour with complete armour. I just re-wax it every couple of years.
Enjoy the comfort and style plus it keeps me dry year after year. I also have vintage German made leathers and textile jackets. Its a disease........

Roland Sans has some cool options. I bought the Truman in camo / on sale from Revzilla. Then I put the d30 back protector in. It’s excellent. And like all of motorcycling - looking cool is half the battle.

Like Fonzie said "Being Cool Man..." , I have been wrenching & riding on 2 continents and for about 60 years mainly with an open face helmet, enjoyed - LOL - several unplanned departures from various motorcycles. I now have good armour and a Shuberth flip face helmet and wear ear plugs... but stop at wearing fluorescent colours. Too many ignorant people on the roads now and I can only spend so much time watching out for the other idiots on the road.
