Tyre pressures

Steve Farrer

Finally made it
Has anyone tried riding with tyre (tire) pressures different from the RE recommended?
The reason I ask is that I am running the standard CEAT tyres at the normal pressure and they are fine on smooth roads but on anything with a bit of bumpiness or on gravel the bike has a bit of slippage.
On my previous RE (an Electra) I had this problem with the original Avons and I fitted first Heidenaus and then Pirellis with a chunkier tread but I do not really want to swap new tyres if I can help it.
Would a slightly lower pressure help? I know the tech stuff but I would like to know if anyone has already tried it so I can save fiddling time.
