Tripper Navigation for Interceptor??

Hey All, clearly new here. I was wondering if anyone has bought a RE tripper navigation unit and added it to one of the twins 650 (i have an interceptor). Not sure if this would be difficult or not. My thoughts are it wouldn't be too hard (but then I'm not mechanical hehe). Appreciate the collective wisdom.

The tripper module, per my limited research only needs 12 V power; then it uses Bluetooth to work with the RE app (downloadable form App Store) on your phone. You will of course need brackets etc and cabling to switched power.

Thanks for that. I was thinking that would be the case. was wondering if anyone had done it yet and whether they had run it off an existing circuit?? Will have to do a bit more research.. :)

Tim in UK AKA "The Caffeine Racer" sells a complete kit for a very reasonable price. I have one on order.

A bit off-topic, I admit, but:

I haven't played with it much since buying my Scram in October (such is my disappointment with the Tripper) so maybe there's been some drastic improvement in the past couple months, but I really am not impressed with the Tripper's function. I'll say it does seem, from this forum and other sources found Googling and YouTubing, that a lot of the herky-jerkiness, telling-me-to-turn-500 feet-too-late, and "stuck on spinning compass" issues are being resolved with newer versions of the app, where said newer versions are available in India but not yet in the U.S. Being in AUS you may have access to a better version of the app than we have here in the U.S. (only version 1.4 on the Android store at the moment), so YMMV based on that.

Where I'm going with this: I got the Tripper for free with my Scram, and I'd love to see a way to delete it or install something better in its place. If you're going to be paying out of pocket for the unit and then paying someone to install it (or even just spending a nice afternoon cursing at it in the garage while you do the install) you may be money and time ahead just going with a nice smartphone mount or purpose-built motorcycle GPS unit.

A friend of mine was told to set up the app with an Indian phone number and that gets round all the update version issues. Can anyone confirm this or is it just 'Bar-stool banter'?

I watched a British gentleman on Youtube compare his then-current European version with the Indian one, version 7.3 7.1 as I recall. Then I downloaded the then-current U.S. version 1.4 from the App store a week or two ago and compared it point-by-point with the Indian version on the Youtube report. It seemed to be the same in every respect, though it did take some perseverance to get all the touch features to respond on the tiny screen of my iPhone SE. The U.S. version 1.4 and the Indian version 7.3 are at least approximately the same -- a differing numbering system is used between the two markets.

Here is the video, which is very good: Uncle Longbeard's Tripper review

As it turned out, when I just went to the App store to confirm my version number I was offered an upgrade, to U.S. version 1.5! The new version claims to have only "minor bug fixes," and was posted just 18 hours ago . This will again be the equivalent of Indian version 7.3, I believe.

P.S. I might emphasize that the European version number series is also different from the U.S. one. The European version 1.5 that Longbeard compares with the Indian version 7.3 is clearly inferior to U.S. version 1.4. This was already implied in what I wrote above.

I‘ve done exactly the same thing after viewing the video on YT. Took some effort to get it working. Fake Indian phone number, Indian sounding email address and mail address is needed. Has worked very well for several month until one day I could no longer log in… Fortunately here in Europe it’s no longer necessary cause we‘ve got the update

Not exactly the same thing. The versions I downloaded were from the US app stores (Apple and android), and are official US versions.

@Moto I was referring to the British YT video. BTW there are different version on IOS and Android phones
Ah, I don’t know exactly what video that would be. I would mostly like to clarify to my American brothers and sisters that we don’t need to use an Indian version, and that the US versions 1.4 and 1.5 are apparently at least its equivalent. No need to fear a failure of the Indian service after a few months as you experienced.
When I checked out the US software a week or two ago, both Apple and Android were at version 1.4, but now Apple is at 1.5 while Android remains at 1.4. Since there are only minor bug fixes in 1.5, Android users should be in good shape with 1.4, though I would anticipate an update to 1.5 for them too.
It looks like we will all have to be careful to state which countries’ Tripper software we are dealing with.

Does the US version also show a moving map on the smartphon?
I’m not sure exactly what you mean. The map moves around when you enter destinations and waypoints. I don’t know whether it shows your changing position on a map as you travel, since I don’t yet have the actual unit. (I decided to thoroughly investigate the interface before I ordered the Tripper. Now I’ve got one coming.)

Quite simple: before the app has been updated during Navigation there was only a static screen. With the update there is a moving map in addition to the Tripper display64043822-67BB-40B5-B5E9-7FBAC5B4E040.jpeg

Help me out here. What are the advantages of this specialized system vs just using Google Maps on your smart phone...? With no added cost but a phone mount can download maps and routes for offline use, have voice command through bluetooth to my helmet in addition to a visual display as big as my phone. Routes and traffic stay as updated as any other alternative...

I understand now. I do not foresee referring to my phone’s screen while riding. To me, the point of the Tripper is to avoid too much distraction by looking at a small map while riding. I’ll keep my phone in my pocket.

I just received my new Tripper from India and plugged it in.
The answer to your question seems to be yes, there is a map displayed on the phone while navigating. Since I am not leaving my garage lately, I can only assume the map will move as I go.

Having gotten more familiar with my new Tripper I'm going to answer your question again, somewhat differently. I just found out that the Tripper does produce voice directions that you could route through Bluetooth to helmet speakers, AND that the voice speaks the names of streets. This is very much like a phone using Google Maps, if you use this feature, and if I did want to use the feature I might be about as well off using my phone.
But I'm coming at this from another direction. I've been going for the minimum in directional instrumentation, using a magnetic compass in preference to a GPS. I'm trying out the Tripper as a compass replacement since my experience with compasses on motorcycles is not too reassuring. I think I'll not use the voice capability, just to avoid the nuisance of it. I want to be able to look down and see an arrow if I think I am getting lost, and I'd like the arrow to be more reliable than a compass. That's enough for me, traveling country roads.
