It's nothing drastic, only about two inches. That little bit extra makes a difference with my Apache 4800, though. The case extends about 8 inches beyond the top rack.

Not all bikes might be the same on mine when I added it the wires where just to tight for my liking. So when I extended the wires I add a set of red 5 in. led lights from Amazon ($15) for more visibility to my top box. I used a trailer 4pin wire connector cause its flat and fits under the pillion seat great and if I want to remove my box its an easy disconnect.
