I do the go, no go. Make sure the middle of the adjustment fits and the loose end doesn't. There is no point in making it too complicated but yes you get better at getting it right the more you do it. At least we don't have to compress buckets and pull shims, do math, find the right shim and try it again or remove cams and buckets, measure shims, do math and find the right shim. LOL

Haha, at least there’s only one cylinder, not 2,3, or more 🙂. For a real challenge try doing an Aprilia V4…..

Agreed, but if you want a REAL challenge, we just finished a 100 hour on a Stearman, which includes valve adjustment. The R985 engine has 9 cylinders and when I finish the adjustment of all 9 cylinders, I have to rotate the engine twice completely, check all valves again and repeat that process two more times, adjusting as necessary, because the cam has 4 sets of lobes.

What really adds to the fun is my target is for all valves to be within 0.004" of each other. :p
