I originally posted this in another forum, but thought I'd post it here to for the GT owners.
I installed it last week. The pipe isn't available in Canada, and dealers won't ship it to Canada. Luckily I found a lightly used one for a good price on E-bay.
Installation was pretty straight forward, but I had to grind a bumpy weld at the collector because the weld touched the clutch cover. You can see how close the pipe comes to the cover, just in front of the oil level window.
I'm using a pleated cotton air filter with a modified OEM air box spigot. I don't like the aftermarket spigot eliminator. It's way too noisy for me.
The S&S db killer is installed in the muffler.
The pipe works well with factory mapping. Sounds really nice.
The power-to-weight ratio of the bike improved quite a bit.
It's also nice to have easy access to the rear wheel, brake, and chain adjusters.
All in all, a nice upgrade.

That's a good question.
As far as I can tell, both versions of the pipe pass SAE noise emissions, but the race-only pipe isn't CARB compliant.
I'm not sure what the exact difference is.....
Regardless, this pipe wouldn't pass an out-of-province inspection here in Alberta, nor is it likely to pass local municipal noise emission regulations.
I've owned bikes with much louder pipes ( a 1979 CBX with a 6-into-1 open megaphone muffler comes to mind ), and never got into trouble. Yet.....

The S&S pipe looks really good. I have the S&S Race only slip-ons with the baffles removed on my GT and like them.
