Don't want to hijack the thread, so when I get it done, I'll start a "How to" thread. Yes, $215 is good. I think I paid $220 thru Amazon, but I see they are up to ~$240 now.
Thank you for providing the feedback that you have provided in another thread as I was not able to reply to you there, I am replying here now.

With your experience I am more inclided to get the Himlayan RE Original Panniers. Please do update where did you get yours and how much did it cost. Thank you and appreciate your help and information.

Hi. Unfortunately the panniers were already installed on the bike when I purchased it. I have seen may on ebay though. I would check there..

Hi Ody04,
Sorry, I thought a PM would be easiest. When I mounted the Tusk panniers, I screwed up, big time. I mounted the left side first, only to discover that I mounted it too low, and when I got to the right side, it hit the muffler. By that time, I'd already drilled the holes in both boxes, so it was too late to easily fix. A word to the wise, the Tusk panniers are about 2 1/2" taller than the RE panniers, so that limits where you can position them vertically relative to the rack and pillion seat without hitting the muffler.

There were a couple of options for me at that point. One, get an aftermarket 'shorty' muffler in the hopes it wouldn't interfere with the box (risky bet), or, two. fill the already drilled holes in both panniers (heli-arc weld, screws and nuts, whatever) and start over. Neither option seemed reasonable, so I decided to scrap the whole thing and go with the stock RE panniers. The mounting hardware I made worked great, but the position on the bike was just wrong. Such is prototyping... I may fix the Tusk boxes in the future and send them on, or save them for some other application.

I got the RE panniers at my local dealer, and they bolted up very easily to the RE racks, as you would expect. I don't want to quote the price as they may or may not be available to you at that price. From US dealers, they are all about the same price. I decided that the higher local price was worth the peace of mind of knowing that they were in new condition and I wouldn't have to fight an international shipper if anything happened in transit. I've had several really bad experiences with DHL and they seem to be what everyone in India uses (YMMV).

So, roughly take the (eBay) price from India (with free shipping and without the racks which I already had), add about 25% (+tax thanks to eBay) and that's about what I paid, give or take. Sorry I can't be more exact, but you get the point.

Just fill the hole with jb weld. Put a piece of packing tape on the inside, fill hole with jb weld, then put another piece of tape on the outside to make a smooth flat finish. Drill new holes. I posted in the Himma thread on ADV forum, post 8275, how to make mounts with hocky pucks for the tusk panniers and the re oem racks. Works great. shame to throw away the tusks. For the guy wanting to paint, how about plasticote? Don't like it, peel it off.

I'm that guy. I have had mixed results with plasticote but that's an interesting idea.
