I'm also looking for a rear top rack I think. I made up a mount for a top box but people are warning me the stock rack might fail. If this is the case I'd rather be safe and replace it, soon.

I have a rather long trip coming up in about 3 weeks and can't wait too long for something to show up. I'd imagine paying somebody to weld mind up with a renforcing bar will cost 1/2-2/3 the cost of the replacement. Zana doesn't look too bad. I'm not putting a ton of weight up there so i don't need anything over built either

I have the Zana, well built and looks great. Fit and finish are awesome. Great product.

Zana racks use different mounting points than OEM. Someone already showed the Zana tail rack mounts, seems to show the OEM side racks WILL work.

I have a GIVI V47 top box that I used with my Concours 1400. I'll bet it alone exceeds the weight limit on the OEM rack. LOL! I do wonder though the situations where the OEM rack failed. Was it because of normal loads or because of what people actually strapped on there? We have all seen the videos and photos of how people in India use their motorcycles. I may just wait until mine cracks before I spend money to replace it.

From what I have read on multiple sites, it was not that they were over loaded. Some thought it was the wind combined with the load hitting the top box. I got most of my info from the Australian and UK blogs. There were enough failures for me to change mine from the beginning.

I would really question how much wind is hitting a top box, unless we are talking about cross winds.

I also wonder how many failures are with the latest bikes compared with the early Himalayans that were plagued with quality issues.

I ordered the SW-Motech Monokey mount hardware and have some scrap aluminum laying around the shop so I will see. I am planning to mount the plate so it takes up 1/2 the passenger area since I won't ever carry a passenger on this bike. That will keep the weight a little more forward.

There was a guy on youtube that welded a gusset, and I noticed on Noraly's bike that the side racks had a brace that went up under the rear of the top rack to provide additional support.

Choices, choices.

I had my rack break. I had a givi top box with just some lunch in it and maybe a couple of small bottles of water. I was on a rough road with baby head boulders, going only about 10 mph. Broke right off. I would not go on a trip and carry any wt on it at all in stock form if you are going to do any offroad.

Can you point out where on the rack it broke?
