Hey everyone,
I just wanted to say "Hi!" from Lookout Mountain in Northeast Alabama. No pictures yet, because I'm travelling to the Caribbean and I can't pick up my new, used bike until we get back. It's a 2021 with only 165 miles on it. I was going to buy it at a dealer, but I saved $1100 by finding a used one 2 1/2 hours away. It's got the red and black tank. I wanted a white one, but when shopping used, you can't always pick your color...
I'm 60 years young, but I've been riding since I was a young whipper snapper. My first real motorcycle was a Hodaka Road Toad. Which probably dates me a little bit because most of you have never even heard of that bike.
From there I moved up through a series of bikes: Hodaka Wombat Combat, Bultaco Pursang 360, Yamaha IT250, Suzuki GS400, Triumph Bonneville (I've had about 5 of them at least.) Yamaha XS650, Honda CB750, Suzuki SV650, Honda CB500, Kawasaki W650 (Currently on my 2nd in the garage as we speak.) Triumph Tiger 1050, Yamaha SR500, Yamaha XT250, Yamaha TW200, etc... Just to name a few. My buddies and I had a swap meet space and the Barber's Vintage Festival for several years. I've been going to it pretty much every year since it started.
Also a car guy having owned: Several Jeeps (Currently own a 1997 Wrangler a manual with the I6), several BMW 3 series from the 1980's, too many Miata's to count, a 1966 Mustang Fastback, a 1971 Olds 442, and too many trucks to count. (Currently own a RAM 1500)
I've always thought of Royal Enfield as an interesting company, being British and then Indian. I've always liked the bikes, but usually when I was interested in them, I was already riding a Triumph Bonneville or a Kawasaki W650, so I never bought one... Until one day I was dumpster diving on Facebook Marketplace and saw my first Himalayan. This caused a few days of deep internet research, watching YouTube videos, etc... From that research, I deemed it to be the perfect bike for up here where we have moved into our vacation cabin permanently.
We live in a secluded cabin on a Forest Service Road, surrounded by other Forest Service roads and a National Preserve. Lots of fun, curvy and scenic paved roads as well. A perfect launching off point for adventures. I've never been a fan of big, fast cars or motorcycles. Always preferring to "Enjoy the Ride..." My wife (who also rides, but not currently) and I prefer to take the "Blue Highways" when touring anyway and I rarely ride over about 65. So the Himalayan seemed like the prefect fit.
I've been lurking for a little while and this seems like jam up forum. Looking forward to learning and sharing. Hopefully we'll plan a get together soon and I can meet some of the inmates here...
