From Texas to Tennessee on a 2018 Himalayan

Hello All - in May I rode a 2018 Himalayan from Texas to Tennessee to meet two friends for our annual weeklong ride, this year on the MABDR. I had not intended to produce such a long video, but - I did, on the premise that some people unable to travel might like to watch the open road, and anyone can skip through it. Scenes of the bike at are 14:00.

Enjoyed the video, and like you I love seeing the small-town main streets and squares.

How was the MABDR? Just did it on my '20 Himma, June 13-19. Had great weather and zero issues with the bike. Eventually, I'll get some pics / narrative shared.

Here's to small towns; may their Main Streets somehow recover. We were on the MABDR two weeks before you, from Damascus north. I'd had no idea how expansive and beautiful the Washington/Jefferson National Forest is, and Pennsylvania - ADV heaven! In the company of two GSAs, the Himalayan held its own until, post-BDR, we got on Interstate, and you know how that goes. I look forward to seeing your pics.

Another guy in our trio posted on the MABDR:

Good job going cross country on your Himmy. 👍 I’ve thought alot about doing the SCMA US Four Corners Tour on the mine. I’ve completed it two times on my Moto Guzzi EVII and two times on my HD Road Glide. I thought it would be fun to do it on a RE. With the new RE cruiser 650 twin coming out hopefully next year. I think I’ll just have to get serious about doing the Tour one more time.

I have lots of family in the Masa AZ area. To hot for me but a really nice place to ride in February.

I had not heard of the SCMA US Four Corners Tour. Twenty-one 333 mile days whatever the weather - brutal. And, great for the people of Lebanon. I guess you'd be the first to pull it off on an REH, though that 650 RE cruiser looks like a more comfortable match.

Initially I fell into the "wish RE would up the cc in the Himalayan" camp, but only to be safer when, inevitably, in high-speed traffic. Now, if RE came out with a higher h.p. Himalayan, I think I'd double down on the 411, especially with options to boost, including https://www.tecbikeparts.com/product/tec-performance-camshaft-royal-enfield-himalayan-410cc/. I also have a KTM 690, which I adore but will never be able to ride to its potential. I really like the Himalayan for its invitation to push its boundaries.

SCMA puts on a lot of awesome rides. For anyone interested here’s the link to their website.

Hate to be a nit picker but I expect that auto correct struck again. It's Mesa AZ. I retired from the City of Phoenix and my wife couldn't wait to get out of the heat.
Used to be a member of SCMA back in the 70's but with most of their rides at the time in So. Cal I didn't see the point.

That’s odd John, I started with SCMA in 1999 and they have rides all year around, being based in south California no surprise there. The ones I like to do are,
1)Three Flags Classic, always done Labor Day weekend.
2) USA Four Corners. Self guided, I usually do this med May- June
3) California Adventure Tour and California Missions. Self guided, this I like to do early spring.

I’m about 1,000 north of LA area so I never did the day to two day rides they have going.

Long before I started riding motorcycles, I used to live with cousins in McFarland, that would have been 64 to 69. You ever see the movie?
Did have a mini-bike that I rode all over the place.
Used to ride out to the "land company" which is an area set aside with pits that were flooded in the winter to recharge the ground water. Even then the farmers were way ahead of the politicians.
1000 miles that would put you in Northern California or southern Oregon? In 1980 did a Norton club event in Leggit and rode the Avenue of the Giants. Great time then I had to drive back to Phoenix! Like driving into a blast furnace even in the dead of night.

Hello John, I’m just a little more north than that. I’m in soggy Washington state. I loved doing the SCMA rides being a long distance rider that I am, I still didn’t do the many day rides they have going year round. My old long distance riding buddy, God rest his sole that lived 100 north of me would pop down many times for the SCMA short stuff also. Here’s a link to the club if anyone is interested.

505mcmahan taking a Himmy cross country is doing all right in my book. 👍 I see also he did it with no windscreen on his bike? A big 👍👍 up! Did you read he started in Az and met his buddies in TN, he only started doing his vid in TX. I hope read more of his stories and see more vids. Keep up the riding 505!

I thought many times of just setting up a Himmy just for street. I see RE is coming out with one next year they are calling it the Scram. Reported the 21” front wheel will be replaced with a 18” wheel, making it a lower seat height and CG.

Sounds like you have it all under control.
A few of us older riders with older bike too are planning a 100-100-100 ride in April. This is a ride for older riders on older bikes, the age of the rider plus the age of the bike has to be over 100 years old. On the 100th day of the year. Then you have to travel over 100 miles and at one point do the ton or 100 MPH. I'm going to take my 74 Norton 850 Interstate which I have had since 1976 and have clocked over 250K on. Add in my age of 70 and I have it licked.
A friend sent me a link to the launch on the new BSA Goldstar 650. These are being built by Mahindra in the Midlands of the UK. I think the new Norton factory is being built in that area too. Norton like Indian have both been bought and sold before being purchased by a responsible company with the where with all to make it work, just like Royal Enfield.

I have a friend who lives in Vancouver Washington and works across the river in Oregon.
As soon as the new Enfield Scram 411 comes out I will have to go up to FW and check it out. Not that I need a new bike, but I do like looking at them.
Cheers
