Well, flew into DFW on 01 November and caught an Uber just 18 minutes north of the airport to Flower Mound, TX. I had pre-shipped my tail bag with riding gear to the seller's house, and this guy was awesome from day one, thanks PK! He had a buddy there working on his house and his handheld grind wheel helped get the bag brackets slots edged just enough so I could fit them where I wanted on the rear rack. Riding out of town was an adventure only because I stopped at least three times in 10 miles to either adjust something/gas up/or check my route. After 20 years of not riding, there were a few "Oh yeah" moments. After that, it occurred to me that I had packed a phone mount too... Yeah, that age thing'll do that to ya... So I mounted the phone and headed out.
Love the way she handles, I'm not in a big enough hurry to worry about the brakes (and no traffic forced me to test those limits). I thought the seat was fine for the first few hours, then I started getting fidgety in the saddle. Don't know if it's the seat or the antique derrière I'm sporting, but I'll def upgrade for the next long ride. Shout out to ILM riding gear. Helmet, jacket, and riding pants were comfy, warm, and dry. Modular was nice, but I noticed some visor noise, I'll see if I can find a fix.
Although this wasn't a BDR route, the weather and the length of the ride coupled with Google maps "no highways, tolls, or ferries" gave me all the "adventure" I wanted for two days!
I did get to see my son's family in OK City and was treated to some excellent Ramen!
Leaving OK City about 0800L, I was treated to a few red dirt and gravel roads compliments of Google maps, and the Himi made me want to find some more! Of course, with more than 300 miles and rain to go through today, I was willing to wait for another day to "get my dirt on". LOL
I'm definitely happy with my choice, and finding a 2018 with only 351 miles on it was a bonus! It's good to have a place to chat with like-minded folks! Thanks
