I ordered a sump cover plate ( I think thats what RE calls it) before I saw the TEC plate. I don't recall the fellows name but I can quote him' "its a bit fiddly to put on and it interferes with the oil filter" . Why yes, yes it is and does! So my problem is a $70 part I can't currently mount. I either need to find someone that has developed a useable bracket for it or get the TEC plate. Maybe I can get me some aluminum strap and form something suitable and effective. I need to grab an image of it and post it.

Been looking at the TEC plate. And I remember those words as well. I have no experience with the RE one, but am going to steer clear due to the “fiddley” comment.

I have the RE plate still sitting on the bench, can't give it away!. I am happy with the TEC, its easy to remove and install during the oil change.

Do you take your 650 Intercepter and ride it off Road? If not why do you feel you need a bash plate/sump cover? For me all it dose is add more weight to the bike and add more complications when changing your oil and filter.

I’ve had my Himmy for four years now and ride it a fair amount off road and have yet to hit the stock bash plate. But then I’m not a hot dog rider.

Just my $.02 cents.

Good question. Stray rock spit from the front tire? I figured if it was a part, there must have been a market need born of user experiences. Does anyone have any stories about how the sump guard saved the day? Or something that punctured an oil filter that would have otherwise been protected by one?

I fitted the RE sump guard to protect the oil filter which is very vulnerable. When I do the oil change I just take the guard off 4 x Allen screws. I’ve modified the mounting bracket so that I can get the filter off without moving it. 👍

Nearly all the youtube vids show people taking off the exhausts to fit 'bash plate', just fitted a sump guard to my Interceptor, it fits snugly against the oil filter but you can fit this item easily without taking the exhausts off, its as simple as cutting down the allen key because the plates/nut back off so the bolts don't have to come out & snag the exhaust, fitted mine in 20 minutes & the exhausts remained undisturbed, John.
