2020 MY ambient air temperature sensor

I have a 2019, and it was located beneath the seat. the inaccurate reading began bothering me, especially during winter riding when it would read a balmy 60 degrees, while it felt more in the 40's. moved it underneath the rear fender and the temperature deviating wasn't as extreme during cold weather riding. however while riding during the summer, the temp is actually much higher than previously. will be looking for another spot to place the sensor. this is definitely a ongoing challenge.

I also own a 2019 Hima and my thermometer would also give temperatures 10 or 11 degrees C higher than the outside temperatures. I moved the sensor to the front, just next to the binnacle and now it is reading only one or two degrees too high. I can live with that.

I've redirected my ambient air sensor to the front downtube for an unobstructed airflow, seems to read better now.
I spoke to a few mechanics car and bike as I had 3 come up for rego renewal in July / Aug. all believe best in front of vehicle but shielded from engine heat, sunlight and air stream. Some in fairings and some behind headlight nacelles etc.
so your behind the down tube seems like a good idea 👍.

Getting there...
Well, being locked up in Western Sydney, allowed me time to find the new factory location of the sensor. Quite easy in the end. Just remove two Allen screws and three 10mm screws under the rear mudguard. This lot secures the number plate. Carefully remove the cover and hey presto the sensor is revealed. Where did you end up moving the temperature sensor to?

I had to lenghten the wiring as well, made it myself.
I know I'm dragging up an old thread but when you say you made it yourself do you mean you just spliced some more wire in or did you find proper plugs and build something that can just be plugged in? If you built a cable with plugs can you tell us what type of plugs they are. Thanks

I wonder if it could be located onto the oil cooler or on an oil line to give an indication of oil temp instead?

It would seem that the dash will read -10 up to 85 degC.
This bloke used the dash readout to indicate from a sump plug adaptation. Why not try taping AATS probe to oil cooler feed pipe, as you summise?

There is a wealth of other info on that site - LINK

(He also Duct Tapes his oil cooler in colder temps, something that may interest you?!) :sneaky:

Thanks for that info Bluestrom
Already duct taped my cooler for winter!
I think it could be useful to show ‘normal’ and hot and cold temperatures — the ‘normal’ being taken during a ride on an open road at say 20/25C. I would think fixing it to the oil line going into the radiator might be a good place?

I will wait to see if I can simply splice a length of wire to extend it (can’t see why not) - and I will have to find the thing as it must be hidden under the rear mudguard!
