Do you think Zana, or RE racks would work better for soft bags? Or maybe Happy Trails? Cost is a consideration...
Me personally, for soft Panniers I will go with Zana. The quality is excellent and I like the design with the flip down lip for the bag support. I have them, just not installed. I am still on the fence wether to go with soft or hard Panniers.

For soft bags, take a look at these brackets also. I like the folding ledge that will keep the bags off the muffler. I think i saw somewhere that the price was 3500 rupees which is about $ 50 US dollars. Plus shipping costs of course.

I ordered these on Wednesday.

About 11 liters each. $22. I got them more for the look in my photos than for the practicality. Hoping that they are small enough that I won't need pannier racks.

Unless they are very short, you'll need some way to keep them off the muffler I think. What brand are these? I am looking for a set of small throwover bags myself. Let us know how they are once you get them.

I will definitely post something up when I get them. I'm thinking if I stay over the top of the passenger seat they should be way above the pipe at just under 10 inches. If they don't work out I can dissect them and use them as internal bags if I get hard bags. Or, repurpose them for other uses.

A guy over on AVRider has those exact same panniers on his Himalayan. He uses them with a rack. They really suit the bike in my opinion. I'd consider them if they were more waterproof.

These are the same ones I have for my day trips and they are excellent for the price. I treated mine to be waterproof and fitted foam stiffeners to give them shape. This keeps the RH one clear of the exhaust.

I have racks but looking at them I think they will not hit the back wheels without racks. The hand rail at the back will keep them off the back wheel. The only issues I foresee it that they will be bouncing off the indicators and the RH side will touch the exhaust. The racks keep the RH side a little further away from the bike and away from the exhaust. However as the throw-over main panel is only canvas it can be shortened with a little sewing which will pull the bags up.

I think the bags sort of go with the pack mule look of the bike.:D

Great minds think alike. I didn't realize they were the same bags because I never clicked on your link. They look good on your bike! I have an assortment of waterproof bags in various sizes so I am not going to worry about making them waterproof. I may still get the racks but I will wait and see how these work out on the bike.
