If it's any consolation to those who were "offended" by the recent IB criticism in this forum, she seems to have found her game again. The visit to the diamond mine was top notch Noraly, those security guys were hard core. And her move into Namibia has been well worth watching.

If she makes this Africa thing a long journey $5 says she buys a better bike.

Oh, and it seems that YT pays for ads watched and ads clicked. So when you click that little [skip ad] button, it reduces her income. Best to just let the ad run.

At least that's my understanding.

Sounds like she has the right bike for what she has been doing. Not many bikes out there in the 300 lb wet weight area that has a subframe for load carrying. Honda reliability. Low enough seat height for her. Maybe a KLX300 or CRF300. A little more power without any more weight.

Yeah, I don't think bike height or weight are an issue. Her first bike was a Monster 796, and she put 60,000 kms on her first (top heavy) Himalayan. Clearly she can throw a bike around. Her challenge is power and torque, and I have $5 that says she fixes that at some point.

I can honestly say, I've NEVER seen a YT ad for a product I was interest in. I despise those ads so much that I have ad blockers on my iMac and on my Firestick (where I watch all her vids).

There's a YT post where someone has calculated how much money she might possibly make. It seems fair since they show a minimum and a maximum of what she could possible make in a year. But the bottom line is, no one knows. It does seem though that she's staying in some better lodging, and I don't blame her.

I watch her and like her vids. I just don't like YT ads.:(

The last apartment she stayed in cost 22 Euros a night. Nicer yes. More expensive? Don't think so.

Looking at what she climbed, what she traversed on the 250, it doesn't look like she needs more power unless it comes without more weight. My KLX250S was my favorite dual purpose motorcycle. Very manageable and the places I conquered with it could not even be considered on the Himalayan. Photos don't capture the steepness of the trail or the size of the rocks but you can see how far I climbed on that little bike in NM. from 4000 feet to 7500 feet on old goat trails.

Climbing that stuff is mostly torque not power. She needs power to haul her gear and cruise at decent speeds which is mostly what she does. I've done my fair share of touring in remote places on all kinds of roads, and I would not do it on that 250. Obviously she's making it work but it's just not the bike for the job.

You must be watching different videos than I am. You do realize her speedo is in KPH right? :)

What bike do you recommend she be on where she can still touch the ground and ride over the gnarly terrain she has been riding?

One that doesn't stall out three times when she has to climb pitch from a full stop.

No need to be condescending, you understand that it's okay if we disagree right? This is not a contest.

While riding jungle-fringed switch backs in the Tuong Son Mountains in Vietnam, I met two British women who where doubled up on a little chinese 125 or 150 with a huge backpack, keeping dry in the rain with plastic ponchos that are the equivalent of wearing garbage bags. Did they make it...yeah, did they have an adventure...yeah, did they have equipment suited for that ride...no.

You could ride some of this stuff on a lawn tractor. That doesn't mean it's your best option.

She stalled it out. That doesn't mean everyone would have stalled it out.

You still didn't answer my question. What bike would you recommend Noraly ride on this African adventure that would be better suited for what and where she is riding taking into consideration her size weight and what she is carrying?

I mean, Charlie and Ewan rode huge GS bikes on their first adventure. They were overloaded. They dropped the bikes a lot. They cracked a frame. Did they make it...yeah, did they have an adventure...yeah, did they have equipment suited for that ride...no.

not trying to be funny here.... but I believe that a Himalayan would be more appropriate for what she is doing than her current bike!

Noraly is an extremely experienced rider, she didn't fail the bike, the bike failed her.

And I'm not going to answer your make/model baiting question. I've already said she would benefit from a better bike with more power and more torque.

Have you done any long haul overland touring?
