Well, I just picked my Himmie today

Dumb idea to do it today. My intention was to go to the dealership (out of state) do the paperwork and go to the motor vehicle registry of my state and thankfully near the dealership (the dealership is on the border of MA and CT) and then Uber back to the dealership to put the plates and ride back home, about 110 mile ride or so through backroads. Little did I know that it was going to rain all afternoon. Guess what? I got wet, extremely wet. I was not even wearing any good gear so I suffered the whole trip back. To the point that I could not speak fluidly due to the cold (it was in the low 50s with very cold rain). It was brutal. Add to this that I had not ridden a motorcycle of any kind in over 10 years and the suffering became worse towards the end of the trip. Legs, butt, ankles, cramps you name it, I had it. Anyways, it is not about me but about my new ride. It is a Sleet model. It behaved beautifully through the whole trip. I was a bit careful since the new tires would likely be tricky on the wet oily roads but I was able to keep the rubber down. The bike is great, in my opinion. I need to get maybe a taller seat (Seat Concepts comes to mind) as I felt that the factory one was too squishy and after 2hrs of riding it got painful. This is 2+ hours of 40mph riding at best and on tarmac. I noticed that the bike does not like to turn that much. It takes a bit of effort to lean it at that speed. We will see when I ride it when dry weather comes as may be my carefulness was a factor. It did not stall at any time, it pulled easily through hills despite my weight which is, lets say, substantial. Other than the compass apparently needing calibration, I have no complaints. Oh, the mirrors. The ones that came with my bike suck. The left one is fine, it is the right one, where the brake lever is, that's not aligned properly and I could not adjust it to see anything through it. I had the shop remove the rubber inserts from the pegs as I knew I would get wet and I did not want my feet slipping. I also asked them to max the pre-load on the rear shock as a precaution and that seems to have been a good call. The bike did not bottom once and I went through many weird condition roads and one that was under construction (the bike got dirty). The bike handled all that much better than I expected. Note that I bought this without a test ride, so I was very impressed at what 24.5bhp can do on that little engine. Not peppy but very linear power. So far, although I am in pain, I am very happy with this bike. You guys were not kidding when you said this was excellent. In the picture below is Eloiza during one of the many stops I made to shelter from the rain. I picked it up with just 1 mile in the ODO and now it has over 100 LOL, I guess that first service will come very soon. 479

Aye, things have moved on, in the old days, when I were a lad, British Royal Enfields stopped working mid-ride in the rain, and you'd be pushing it home....<irony>

The dealer indicates that they sell a lot of those. They are in CT and mentioned that they have a lot of customers from NH getting the Himalayan, they did not seem to remember many from MA though :)
I have to say, while painful, I did have a blast.
I was #5 according to them last July. They are the only game around now that New Haven dropped the brand. I had good luck with them, and would definitely go back for another one.

I have no issues with turn in but I do practice countersteering. You just have to push on the bar until you get to the lean angle you are looking for.
I know. there is a phenomenon with new cyclists in that it is easier for one to turn in a particular direction than the other. I feel that is what affected me yesterday. I could not believe how rusty I was and that, combined with the stiffness of the bike, made up for a nice adventurous ride. :)

Yes, I had a relatively good experience for it being out of state and all. Too bad, they are the closest game in town, oh well. I hope all is well with my bike and not have to. haul it there for service ever. I will consider doing the first service there if the weather is good and if they could do it while I wait.

Better yet, do it while you go for test rides on other bikes. :) That is what I do at the Moto Guzzi dealer 80 miles from me. They will let you ride any of the used bikes and some of the new bikes. They carry 13 brands of motorcycles.

I'm looking at getting a Himalayan here in NH, very close to where I live.
This is my first real bike and first time going through a dealer, is there any kind of negotiating like purchasing a car or is the MSRP +fees set in stone?

Dealer here advertises the base price + assembly and setup + destination fee = $5,694 Retail Price
