Pannier rack installation - Bad fit?

+1 for Curt's report. The stock RE racks suck - terrible fit, terrible QC and just plain bad (I bought them from my dealer, so I know they are genuine RE). I can't comment on the Givi's, but they're probably better than the RE racks (almost anything would be better). I would also verify that the Givi's will fit whatever panniers you're going to use.

My only advice would be if you go with the RE racks, have a dealer install them. That way, you're not stuck with trying to fix the crappy fit.

As always, YMMV. I had no problem installing mine and no damage whatsoever after my 2 get offs. I got mine from an Indian seller on eBay about 2 years ago. Maybe the manufacturing has changed?

Getting there...
I bought the factory rack from Ebay and it arrived in one week from India, amazing! I was dreading installing them myself after reading post on here. It went smoothly and everything fit where it should have. The two lower bolt holes were not full of paint but rusty, so I knew the bolts would go in without a problem. I didn't relocate the brake light because the bracket is made for the LED India light.

Good morning all. We have had some unusually warm weather here in Wisconsin, and at 46 degrees F, I decided that yesterday was a good time to finally install my panniers. And, thanks to this post, I knew what to expect, as far as a rough installation, and you all did not disappoint. Yeah, precision wasn't the greatest, but going slow, a little bit of brute force bending, and installing all of the bolts loose, I was able to get it all installed. They look great. I even had to take it out on a test ride (I didn't full winterize this bike in case we had some warm days in-between winter, as usually happens in the midwest).

Yes, a lot of people have problems, particuarly with the positioning and angle of the left front mount.
This seems to have mainly been a problem from about March 2020 onwards.
Nah, it was a problem long before that. I bought my bike in Feb 2020, mounted factory racks myself, and had the same issues, though I was able to intimidate things into fitting.
This is pretty shameful of RE actually. It's a long term problem and clearly a problem with their manufacturing, yet they haven't bothered to do anything about it. Unfortunately, they haven't completely shaken off the shoddy workmanship tag.
