So far I’ve only dropped the Himalayan in a parking lot. I’ve dropped every other one of my bikes save one, in all different manners, low siding, high siding, trying to drift a cruiser on dirt, being pushed off the road from a car, slipping on ice or hail, crashing in to snow banks but let’s talk about the Himalayan.
So I have my Himalayan and a bicycle. Before the Himalayan it was only a bicycle, wow is a motorcycle so much easier. So I use my bike for everything, getting groceries, kitty little, carpet, wood, I delivered a transfer case with it once.
When I first put my panniers on I was pretty excited with how much they could hold. I got off work one day and headed to the local Costco in search of some meat. I go in and get my usual pack of chicken, pork log and half of salmon. The salmon was on sale yes let’s get 2 of them. I head out flip open the right pannier and everything fits alright I won’t have to shuffle around my work clothes that I had in the left pannier. So I head on my merry way home, I notice the bike seems heavy to the right but not overly. Well on my way home I decide to stop at the crepe place by my house and get some breakfast ( I work nights, that’s why breakfast after work). I pull in to the parking lot notice a couple walking across the parking lot, I slow down and stop so they can cross in front of me. I stop leaving my right foot on the rear brake and putting my left foot down like always, well it turns out putting 20ish pounds on one side wasn’t the best idea. The bike fell to the right and down I went with it still sitting on the seat with the rear brake on. The couple come running over and ask if I’m ok, I get up take my helmet off reply “only my pride” thank them for their concern. Pick the bike up and check for some damages, couple scratches on the bar end, engine guard and plastic bit on the pannier.
Here’s the pile of meat.
Tip, if you want to carry drinks home, a drink tray will fit in the pannier and hold drinks nicely. If you getting a to go meal it helps hold the tray down even more.
