Losing Display

Any one else having there digital display disappear while riding? Took her down some light gravel roads and every time I looked down the digital display was gone, back ground light still work but nothing else showed up. Speed, tachometer, Compass and fuel all worked. So did engine lights and turn signal arrows. Had to stop bike, turn key off to get it to reset and come back on. I look for loose wires or plugs but have not found any. Anyone else get this?

Display still in and out. Now Compass reads North, no matter which way im heading. Not too worried about that, more worried about the Mileage and gear indacator readout going dark..no one else have this? Just me huh?

Other than a compass that steadfastly indicates that I am traveling North West the display works fine.
I must say that sometimes when starting the bike the voltage drops too much and the whole display turns off. When the bike starts the display resets, including the clock that starts at 12.00 hours again. But that may be due to a weak battery. I put it on the charger last week: we'll see if that improves matters.

Try dis-connecting the battery for a couple of minutes. Worked a treat for my mis-behaving compass that was permanently in calibrate mode (after a drop - see Steering Lock thread!)

It's weird, my compass used to "work" at least it used to change when I changed direction, if it was accurate I don't know. Now it's N no matter which way I go.
I don't think it's battery. My clock holds time, when the display works. Like I said the tachometer and speedo seem to be ok, other wise I would suspect the plug or whole unit.
This just disappears when it feels like it, no reason needed. Could be while riding or idle.
I'm thinking of getting Father O'Malley to come down from the Catholic Church and perform an exorcism on it.

Just get the dealer to replace it. I know one of the members here was having some issues with the side stand cutting out the engine and it turned out a connection was intermittent at a relay. If you don't want to let the dealer diagnose, you could trace the wiring and check all the connections.

My dealer is useless, even before the outbreak. I'll trace it out my self and see what I can find. Thanks

Try removing the plug from the control panel. Because the control panel may need to reset itself. Also check the cables into the plug, as this could also be the cause of the issue. Be very careful though, because the wires are only lightly fitted into the plug. As I found out to my cost when I had a similar problem and inadvertently pulled a wire out of the plug. Then had to figure a solution to hold it back in place as it was impossible to reseat in the original manner. After this happened I found the best way to approach this, is to first remove the headlight. As that makes accessing the plug much easier and pulling a wire out by mistake much less likely.

Thanks, I'll give it a go.

So, removed Light to get to Plug, In doing so, looking at the plug it appears that when I had it in for its first service I asked them to adjust the headlight down. Every time I hit the high beams planes would start to land, like some sort of beacon.....anyway, it looks like when you move the light down it pushes against the plug. With bumps and shaking it rubbed on some of the wires and wore the plastic shielding off..... Im going to take it to my work place and rewire the plug properly. When It stops raining ill take some pics.

And touch the battery cable ends together and switch the ignition on. Pretty much makes sure the capacitors in the electronics get discharged.

Is there anyone who has a working compass? Seems to me with this bike that a fix that works for one, won't work for another.
Mine works. I did the old "disconnect the battery, switch the ignition on and touch the cable ends to drain the capacitors" trick to re set the gear indicator and the compass has been rock steady since.
