Hi all,
I find the standard Himalayan indicators quite fragile, having broken off a rear one when I just brushed past it in the garage. So I decided to fit LED ones and I wanted unbreakable.
This is not a cheap conversion as it seems "unbreakable" adds dramatically to the indicator cost. But it is a high quality set-up and the indicators are genuinely unbreakable - well, the mounts/stems are, but the white lenses can still break if directly hit. Cheaper indicators would bring the costs down significantly.
The parts needed are:
4 x Tuff Lites from Extreme Dual Sports in the U.S., I first saw these on a Himalayan tested off-road in the U.S. Note, in the UK you then also have to pay 20% VAT, adding to the already quite high cost. The bolt straight into the existing frame mount holes.
4 x Hitchcocks' indicator connectors (require soldering/crimping to the tiny gauge Tuff Lite wire pair for each indicator)
1 x "Bike It" brand 2 pin universal relay. In the UK got this from SportsBikeShop and although round in shape, it's a direct swap for the original relay, fits in 20secs once the side panel is off and works perfectly.
If you're not bothered about unbreakable then it would be a massively cheaper option to fit regular LED indicators (ie. breakable!) plus the above associated parts.
Hope this helps if your interested to fit LEDs.
