Installing a USB charger - how to

Hi All

does anyone know where I can find some guidelines on how to properly install a USB charger on my Himalayan? I found several videos on youtube however they all seem to connect the cable to the battery, which as I understand is not recommended (Better to connect to the ignition switch instead to avoid draining the battery?). Also for info I know close to nothing about engines, electricals etc...

Many thanks,

Andrea

There is a video by a guy Adrian Aedes who shows how it can be done:
.

He takes the current from the wire to the rearlight (which is switched with the ignition switch) to activate a relais that gets its electricity from the battery. So: ignition off, no drain on the battery. That any help?

Ah nice one thank you, Robert. This may be slightly overkill for what I want to do but it's definitely helpful.

Cheers!

just seeing this post now. don't know if you've already done what you wanted. but unless you've got something plugged in without the bike running. you don't have to worry about any battery drain. I have a powerlet outlet that I hooked up to my battery. and I haven't had any issues.

On my last bike I mounted the usb charger and just plugged it into the Battery Tender pigtail when I was going to ride. I always plugged the battery into the tender when parking. When i got the Himalayan I upgraded to a switched usb charger like this one https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B072JM3NWG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Sorry reawakening an old post. I have this on another bike, and the blue led lets you know its on, so hard to miss. The built in switch is great.
I have just ordered another one - for my Himalayan two days ago.
