Helmet noise

Point taken , I've been hanging around dirt bikers too long. I like the peak because it helps keep the sun off the face. Being in the skin cancer capital of the world that's important. The Schubert E1 has a sun visor built in as well as the peak. Plus the peak comes off very easily and it then looks just like a "road" helmet. I have done that when the turbulence was too much riding my Honda.
Never had a problem with that doing a lane check, unless I was way over the speed limit. Not likely on the Himalayan. I have found getting into clean air works best for me whatever helmet I have had.
I do tinted visor or transition visor or drop down internal sun visor. Not one inch of skin exposed

Or a 'Sunblocker' tinted strip that goes at the top of the visor.
No visor changes required for bright sunlight/night riding.

I previously had a XD3 Tour-X but the latest model did not fit me (why change Arai?).
So I went to the Klim Krios.
It has quite a high peak with gap for air, presumably so the peak has less aerodynamic effect. This also means the peak is less effective blocking the sun.
The face hole (technical term) has a bigger gap above the eyes so I needed the visor tint strip.

Yes, my XD4 isn't as nice as my XD3 was. Probably should have got the AGV, X9 I think its called, but no-one had one to try.
The Schuberth fits better and has the internal sun visor and pre-installed pinlock. I don't like tinted visors so it suits me.
Over 40 years I've owned a number of helmets, first one I had was a 70's era Bell thru to a few schuberths (BMW System).
I have never found one that was "perfect". But they were all good enough.
In the end whatever works for you is the correct one.

I have had all the stupid expensive jobbies and have now settled on these, has all the features of the overpriced ones at least a third the cost.

I've been looking at these.
So, totally subjective question coming..........
How noisy is it?

In all honesty, I have never had a "quiet" helmet, I've had really really bloody expensive ones but not one I could call quiet. I removed my screen completely on my Himmi and now have clean air around the helmet but I usually ride with the visor up and sunglasses with any helmet, only rain, and swarms of bugs and dust will see me close it.
As to your question, about the same as many others.

Can't say I have seen these before. They look quite good. No distributor for Aus it seems. I could get one from NZ though. Tempting to get one to try it out.
The main reason I always bought Arai, Shoei, etc is that none of the others had the features I wanted or fitted properly. Have tried Nolan, Shark, etc and the fit for me was awful. I did like the AGV's I had once they were worn in a bit. So if the Caberg fits anything like them it could be a future contender for my son. I don't think his Arai is going to last the year the way he keeps binning his dirt bike.
Thanks for making me aware of them. And you are right no helmet is dead quiet, and being in clean air is so much better.

The thing that just pissed me off about Schuberth helmets was the fact of them slamming shut if you had them open on the trail, never all the way, just enough to block your entire vision, the bloody visor wouldn't stay open either. I like the fit and have had 3 of them but they finally pissed me off so much I threw them all in the trash!
The Caberg doesn't shut on its own and the visor stays where you put it in one of the many positions they have.

You are from Canberra, and it can be infectious!
Oi!, I should be offended. But there are already too many snowflakes here. At least I wasn't born here. Only came to work for the fed gov short term, stayed 20 odd years, then I took early retirement. Still not a local.
Must get back over to Adelaide one day. Used to ride to there often from Melbourne back in the early 80's, before things changed and you couldn't do it in 6 around hours anymore.

@Shearboy
Will try that and see if they do it (probably knowing Schuberth. "Such use is outside the design parameters, Warranty void!"). I never rode with my previous ones open so never had that problem. The visor seems a bit stiffer than I recall so will see. I do like the look of those Tourmax's though. Around $400AU tempting to try one. Just don't really need another helmet sitting around though.

No offence intended .
Took me 11 hr flat back from Melb last time , had a 45 kph/45C headwind so rehydration was the order of the day.
When I arrived in the pub at six PM most of the guys thought I had left at lunchtime, they all seemed to have memories of big Z 's , 5 hrs and holding 160 for hours on end.
One had actually been master of Mac Park on his Z , and another had built the big bang Z which finally knocked the Vincents off in sidecar speedway, so it probably wasn't all pub talk.

On my sixth Schuberth, never had any problems with them.
Comfortable quiet, well vented , and until recently you could land one and a spare visor for around $500- from Chromeburner, but seem to be a fair bit more expensive now.
Current one is the ADV style with the Peak, never ride with the bottom half up, often with the visor up and never had any problem with it falling down, though I do ty to avoid running into trees.
Find it a little tight, they only do a xxxl and I really need a xxxxl, but xxxxl hard to find in quality helmets.

I think my best was probably 6 1/2 hours. I am always faster the further I go back in time. Did it on a little Suzuki GSX400F if I recall, a baby Katana. Holding 130+ with minimal stops, shit lights, no ABS, no cruise, and no arse by the time you arrived, those were the days, ha!

I am at the other end of the scale with Helmets. I wear a small Schuberth E1 and it feels like it could be a bit tighter. Having no hair doesn't help. Looked at Chromeburner but I need to try one on first, and have it my hands before buying. For the sake of a few hundred $ I'll take one from the guy who has them in front of me. I got mine from Andy in Melb so it wasn't from a chain store either.

this thread got me wondering... I used to ride with an open face for my dirt bike and a full face for my street bike. Right now I'm using my old Shoei full face which I like a lot and is very quiet, but I'm thinking of going back to open face. What do yall think?

Don't crash.
This.

My anecdote comes from 25 years past. Member of our club rode a Goldwing and used a 3/4 helmet. On the way to work one morning he had to cross a wooden bridge, the bridge was a bit wet with early morning dew. He went down hard. It took several reconstructive surgeries using one of his ribs to rebuild his jaw.

I use full face helmets, I'm ugly enough as it is.

The experience of riding with an open face helmet is more enjoyable. You're more out in the open and part of your surroundings. Looking through a visor with your head totally enclosed takes away from that experience. YMMV
