Dealer overfilled oil on delivery

I just recieved my himalayan from the dealer and put my fist two hundred kilometers on it. I did not check the oil upon delivery and had my wife get down and check when I had it upright because I could not yet get it on the center stand. Come to find out that the bike was delivered with the oil filled to the top of the glass and I have been running it in overfilled with oil. Now I am supposed to drive 250 kilometers to the dealer for my first oil change. I have to get my wife to call the dealer and communicate in Thai, always a problem with clear communication. I checked tail pipe and air filter and no oil on those. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

Before you decide if it really overfilled, read the manual for the proper way to measure. Make sure EVERY variable it by the book. If you can't get the bike on the center stand, roll the back tire onto a 1-2" thick piece of wood. Then place on center stand.

Place motorcycle on its center stand on a firm surface.

Warm up engine for a few minutes & switch off before checking oil level.

The level is correct if the oil level is in the middle of the oil level window.

thanks for the suggestion, especially about the two by four. I have checked it on the center stand and it is definatly overfilled.
Dealer ran through thier checkd on the bike and also checked the remaining Himalayan on the floor and this is how Enfield delivered them so this is how it is delivered it to me. They said drive it in like this to the first service and they will take all responsibilities for any problem. The bike feels like it is running fine with no blowback through the air-filter or muffler and no foam in the oil. Thailand is a strange place and communication is always awful but I am a bit afraid to touch the bike and be held responsible for anything before the first service.

Changed my oil and filter today. Didn't take a full 2 litres, probably about 1.8 litres. Went for a run and the level was good. Will check tomorrow.

The owners manual states that 1.8 litres is for the first fill only (off works?) and subsequent fills should be 1.6 liters.

When changing oil I don't measure the quantity but fill slowly up to a little under the top fill line.

Mine is a 2019 version, maybe the first crankcases were bigger?
What year is yours?
half a liter difference isn't too much but could cause undue pressure in the c'case.
Though I suppose there is a breatherbox somewhere...

Mine is a 2018. The manual I took the figure from is one I downloaded online and I think it's for the carburetor model. My manual is in my tool tube, so I don't know what capacity it states, likely it's the same capacity you stated. Doesn't really matter as we have an oil level glass. I'm just surprised there's a difference.

The figures are all over the place. The Australian BS4 owners manual dated Aug 2019 says;
"2.3 Ltrs. (First Fill only) 1.6 - 1.8 Ltrs. Approx. (during oil & filter element replacement in periodical maintenance)"

first fill of 2.3 litres (off works) might explain the 'full' level glass of the OP.
My guess is that with a 400 cc displacement crankcase pressure won't be exceedingly high; there probably is a breatherbox somewhere. I'll chech that one of these days.
Important thing is that there is sufficient lubrication. Assuming that the design of the crankcase and level glass is correct, filling between the lines should be fine.

I did my 550k service today in Bangkok. The total trip to the dealer and back was 540 kilometers. I drove up the coast from my house and made it a two day trip. After the first service the levels are back between the lines. The bike is also running excellent. Total charge for the service was very reasonable, thirty three dollars U.S. The bike is indeed a 2020 Rock red BSIV with the shorter kick stand and switchable ABS. After all the roadside burning, (garbage ect.) I saw today I guess the pollution upgrade was not mandatory in Thailand.

That is interesting.
New colours with new build but not BS6 emissions controls.

Do you know anybody with an older Himalayan or perhaps a current model in the older colours ?
Would be good if you could put an old sidestand and yours side by side and post a pic.

This is only the second Himalayan I have ever seen in person but I will say that the one I did see, a 2019 sleet, was standing way too upright. I noticed it immediately and even commented on it more than once. This kick stand on the 2020 does not have that problem.

Someone has checked and claim the new stand is around 6mm shorter. Than something, my 2017 Oz bike has a stand which is already around 6mm too short!
They get better brake pads too, but don't know about the Iridium plug!
My 2017 Oz bike states 2 liters at a oil and filter change .
I measure out exactly 2 liters at a change, and the only way it gives the correct level in the glass on the center stand, a couple of min after a cold start and the bike ticking over.
Might even be how they tell you to do it in the book!

The mount on the bars is a sweet phone holder free from the dealer. I also just installed new inexspensive hand guards $20 shipped to Thailand from amazon. They are heavy duty aluminum wraparounds that fit the bike by moving the windshield mounting grommets to the upper position and tilting the winshiel a bit forward. This may take a bit of tweaking but the hand guards fit and allow the handle bar lock to operate. Also you just use the exsisting pre threaded bolt in the end of your handlebars to attach the hand guards. My favorite part are some salvaged some oval mirrors off my honda wave scooter for a low profile, and much wider vision for me.

The bike has the same side cover and speedo graphics as the BS6 but does not appear to have the ABS off switch.

I wonder if these new colour BS4.5 will appear in other markets.
