Crash Bars

I'm always wary of crash bars and bobbins / doughnuts you see fitted to motorcycle frames ...
No stress testing has been done and in many cases the major damage to the main frame was caused by the crash structures...
If your bike falls over at high or low speed the contact patch with the road / ground is easy to discern ... adding steel moment arms to the main frame structure will always cause stress that the frame was not designed for ...
If RE want to sell crash bars make sure that main frame damage caused by the attachment of their crash structures is covered by warranty ... Doubt it is..

I saw this in your FB page, I think it is brilliantly done. I like the look of the bike without the front racks installed. It is kind of cleaner and most complimented by the enhancements you have made to it. It is a nice clean looking bike.

I do agree that most of what is being offered is sketchy. I have seem images of bikes with them that show damage to the bike regardless of the crash guards because they were destroyed in the fall. Many, really just don't have much thought put on the forces applied to the frame in the case of a collision. It could be a sad situation if because of them the frame is totaled.

Before i had my hima i was dead set on crash bars, after enough though i figured they only add weight. The hima seems to crash rather 'well' seeing as it has no plastic to shatter. No bars for me. Only the kind that serves a cold one!

Nice bike Putt, especially love what you've done to the rear! I would love insight into the fabrication process if at all possible!

Adding my 2¢ worth, the factory crash bars are checking the right boxes for me. Light enough to not be anchors, stiff enough to do the deed in a drop, mount tabs and tube wall thickness thin enough that in a moving "down" they'll fold over and and back around the side covers absorbing energy by deforming.

This is based on a. my experience with crash bars of similar diameters & material thicknesses.

I doubt the engineers who designed the Himalayan would design their genuine factory accessory in a way that would add damage instead of save some.

I believe some of you may be confusing tip over bars with crash bars.

I mostly mount engine guards when I want to mount auxiliary lighting or highway pegs.

For bars to have crash protection they need to mount in 3 or more points so they don't just bend.

The OEM guards are barely adequate enough in a tip over.
