bike fell over by itself

Was looking out the window to check on the weather condition, and saw the bike on it's side in the driveway. it was a little windy with intermittent showers, so I had put the bike cover on it last night when I got home. scratches on the foot peg, hand guard and the pannier with a slight dent where the pannier is next to the mounting bracket. I believe the cause of this is because of the taller side stand and as soon as the weather warms up, I'm going to figure out how to shorten it. never had this problem with my other bikes.

Have you adjusted the preload on the rear shock? Mine needed quite a bit of preload put in for my riding weight, and the side benefit was that the bike leans more on the side stand. On level surface the side stand works fine. On less than level, (like stopping to the side of a road) it is a little iffy and causes me to make sure the bike is solid before stepping away from it. I don't know how people are adding the wide foot under the side stand without concern.

will take everyone's suggestion and give it some thought. I definitely want to shorten the side stand so that if I have to stop on the side of the road, I won't have to worry about the bike tipping over. a couple of times had to pull over and either had to continue riding to find a spot that would let the bike lean more, or I was worrying that the bike would fall. Thanks

It seems lots of people complain about this, but I've not really seen it as a problem. If the bike is sitting precariously, then move it and makes sure there's sufficient lean. I've had to do this a few times, but I've had to do it on other bikes too.
